Greetings from the Schwarzman Scholars Admissions Team!
Earlier this week we released decisions both for those invited to interview and those who will not be moving forward in our admissions process. Congratulations to everyone who participated – we had strong interest this year and enjoyed reviewing submitted materials from a truly outstanding group of applicants.
We are excited to offer below some tips and best practices for interviewing:
- Prioritize authenticity. We’re not looking for the candidates who can best pre-rehearse smooth answers to imagined questions.
- The Schwarzman Scholars admissions committee and all our interview panels place a premium on demonstrated leadership. That being the case, all candidates should do the same thing. We want to see people who already are demonstrating leadership in their chosen fields and can have a thoughtful conversation with us about where they have been and where they want to go. We’re not saying they need to have everything planned out for every step during the next 30 years, but we do want to know they have thought through how their current demonstration of leadership fits into a professional arc.
- The interviewers are leaders from around the globe who know a thing or two about what constitutes demonstrated leadership. Interviewees should be prepared for a warm but rigorous conversation with their panelists.
Good luck to everyone as we proceed through the fall.
Stay safe and stay well,
Cordel Faulk
