Coronavirus Update

February 20, 2020

In light of the coronavirus spread, the Schwarzman Scholars team at the College and in New York is working hard to protect our Scholars, faculty, and staff on campus and beyond. Our highest priority is their health and well-being.

Schwarzman Scholars mobilized quickly when news of the coronavirus broke and provided a flight home or to a safe place for every Scholar who sought one. Classes for Module 3 resumed as planned on February 17th online. We worked with experts in online learning to build out a system of live lectures to deliver our originally scheduled curriculum to Scholars. Our incredible faculty and staff teams pivoted quickly to ensure that we had a seamless transition to online courses. At present, they are all teaching the same courses they were originally scheduled to instruct, and our discussion groups are also continuing as planned.

We recently announced Schwarzman College’s plans to temporarily relocate to the campus of NYU Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately, we will no longer be moving forward with this plan as the situation has evolved in a direction that has increased risk on many fronts. Numerous travel and health & safety restrictions have been implemented over the past week in the region and a number of other countries around the world.

We look forward to continuing with online classes as we support our Scholars towards graduation. There is also online co-curricular programming in the works as we aim to replicate the Scholar experience at Schwarzman College. It is our hope still to return to Schwarzman College to finish out the academic year and graduate.

We will continue to keep you updated.
