Leading the Social Innovation in China

This course will help you to understand social innovation in China and NGO roles including in the areas of poverty alleviation, rural revitalization, education, healthcare in poor areas and the ways to fight Covid-19. These are the most difficult areas of social development, not only in China, but in most countries in the world. The course will focus on the following issues: 1. What is social innovation? 2. Why does China’s social innovation start from poverty alleviation? 3. Is innovation in education the foundation of all innovations? 4. How does China address the aging issue? 5. What are current innovations in China’s rural healthcare sector? 6. Within innovation, what are the special roles of Chinese NGOs? 7. What is the role of leadership in social innovation?

This course will be problem-oriented and discuss various cases developed in China over the past few years. Students will be deeply involved in case discussions and provide their innovative ideas to address similar problems in his/her owning country.
