China’s Foreign Relations

China’s rise in world affairs has become one of the most significant foreign policy issues in today’s international system. This course examines China’s relations with various countries and regions, and the various factors that affect Chinese foreign policy decision-making processes. As the Schwarzman Scholars program is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders with an understanding of China, this course aims to help Scholars gain a better understanding about China’s foreign relations and its new global role. As the US-China relationship is currently experiencing major difficulties and the regional security mechanism is under a paradigm change, this course will help the Schwarzman Scholars comprehend the current realities and challenges from different perspectives of the Asia Pacific geopolitics and identity politics. This course also seeks to prepare students to conduct original research on Chinese foreign policy, the foreign-domestic linkage in China’s international behavior, and US-China relations.
