Joelle Cheong will graduate in June 2018 from the University of Sheffield with a double major in Politics and Sociology. She is a Lieutenant in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), and commissioned as a Tank Armour Officer, ranking top 10% in her cohort (Sword of Merit). She is also the recipient of the SAF Merit Scholarship (Women). Joelle’s belief in empowering youths and passion in engaging youths in current affairs has led her to play integral roles in various initiatives. She has been heavily involved in the planning of the 2018 Commonwealth Youth Forum, the 1st ASEAN Youth Convention in 2009, and writes regularly for the ASEAN Economic Forum (an online platform aimed at educating youths on contemporary issues in ASEAN). She is also launching several new initiatives to enhance youth engagement in politics and social issues in Singapore. In the future, she hopes to further her career in the public service, leveraging on the knowledge and experiences gained about China and the world from the Schwarzman Scholars Programme. Joelle is 22 years old and from Singapore.
