Erik is a proud Minnesotan who graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Quantitative Economics from the United States Naval Academy and commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in May 2017. Following graduation, Erik had the opportunity to intern at the Pentagon in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations through the Truman Scholarship Summer Institute program. At the Naval Academy, Erik was involved with the STEM Center and Midshipmen Action Group organizations and participated in intramural athletics. He also interned at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he supported research on an offshore port development project. Erik is interested in learning more about China and its economic and military relationships with the United States, and hopes to improve his language skills and cultural understanding while studying in Beijing. Following his time at Tsinghua, Erik will serve in the United States Navy as a submarine warfare officer. Erik is 24 years old and from the United States.
