Andrew Ertl graduated from Columbia University in May 2017 with a degree in History and a specialization in Modern Military Studies. Before enrolling at Columbia University, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 2008. After deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, Andrew was selected for the Marine Corps’ embassy security program and spent his last three years in Tbilisi, Beijing, and Budapest. As a Schwarzman Scholar, Andrew is researching how public opinion influences military policy and vice versa including interactions between civilians and military personnel. Andrew is 28 years old, was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and is from the United States.
