The Role of Law and Legal Institutions in China—A Comparative View

This course will introduce Chinese legal history and traditions and explore the development of law and legal institutions in China and their role in economic and political development in the years since the end of the Cultural Revolution. We will also discuss the major differences between China’s civil law system and the common law system and between the adversarial and investigative approaches, and how those differences relate to different economic models and structures and political systems.
