On April 21, 2013, Stephen Schwarzman announced the launch of the Schwarzman Scholars program at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. He was introduced by U.S. Chargé d'Affaires, Robert Wang, who read a letter in support of the program from President Barack Obama.
