A Message to the Schwarzman Scholars Community

June 6, 2020

We thought it important to share a message that Schwarzman Scholars leadership sent to all Scholars this week.

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on the current crisis gripping the United States. Approximately 40 percent of your cohort comes from the U.S., which has recently experienced inexcusable acts of racial injustice and wrongful deaths of African Americans. This in turn has set off a wave of protest and violence across the country. Our deepest sympathies are with the victims’ families, friends and impacted communities.

In the midst of these tragedies, it is important to reassert what we believe is core to the mission of Schwarzman Scholars: a commitment to greater understanding of the complex, nuanced issues that often cause division within and outside our respective borders. Now more than ever, we encourage you to promote tolerance, understanding and dialogue on the most consequential issues of our times.

We strongly embrace diversity of ideas and backgrounds, and have zero tolerance for racism of any kind. Remember this as you continue to support each other and continue to give back to your communities.

We are proud of your commitment to the program and its mission during these challenging times.
