See below the statement sent from Founding Trustee Steve Schwarzman to our community in the wake of recent events in Atlanta. We stand by our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander Scholars, colleagues, and all members of our community during this difficult time.
I am writing to address the recent surge in violence towards members of the Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, particularly the horrific murders of eight people in Atlanta, six of them of Asian descent. These acts are, unfortunately, just the latest in a long line of violence against Asian communities around the world.
Schwarzman Scholars has zero tolerance for any form of racism. Our program is based in Beijing and we stand by our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander Scholars, colleagues and all members of our community during this difficult time. It is our mission to create a more peaceful and inclusive world. As you know well, our program’s core values are rooted in the conviction that diversity of background and thought, as well as cross-cultural competency, drives the most powerful outcomes. I urge each of you to lead by example wherever you can to promote tolerance, kindness and inclusion throughout your lives and in any leadership role you assume.
Finally, please know that you can reach out to me, Amy Stursberg, Dean Xue Lan, or any member of our staff to share your thoughts on this important issue.
